Re: SCHOOL HALL BUILDING FUND
Greetings from your Parents’ Teachers’ Association. Once again, we are writing to you to appeal for your support.
Your School Board of Governors (“BOG”) and Parents’, Teachers’ Association (“PTA”) together with the School Old Boys have already launched the School Hall Building Fund on the 15 th April 2005 at 10.00am. (News as published in major local newspapers)

Brief History oof SJK (C) Chee Wen
Chee Wen was established in 1939 in Sungai Tinggi, Kuala Selangor. It was founded by Mr. Sung Seng Woon, Mr. Lim Seng Tet, Mr. Chang Wa, and Mr. Tan Mun Yeen with Mr. Sung chairing the inaugural Board Of Governors meeting. As most of the local Chinese in Sungai Tinggi came from Hainan Island, the School was named after the eldest son of the eminent Soong family of China Mr. T.V. Song, a fellow I Iainanese and who was also the Finance Minister of China then. Due to the confusion of dialectic pronunciations, the school was spelt to read “Chee Wen”. Mr.T.V.Soong was also the eldest brother of the famous Soong sisters, Ai-Ling, Ching-Ling and May-Ling.

In 1995, Subang Jaya district experienced rapid development. As such, there was a surge in demand for more Chinese Schools. Due to such overwhelming demands, the residents set up a committee and appointed Subang Jaya State Assemblyman YB Dato’ Lee Hwa Beng as the Advisor to apply for SJK (C) Chee Wen to be relocated to Subang Jaya. Due to their hard work, finally, in the year 2000, approval was granted by the relevant Authorities. In the year 2001, SJKC (C) Chee Wen started its pioneer classes with 158 pupils sharing the premise of SK SS17. During this time, the number of pupils gradually increased and pressure for its own premise began to surface.

The School Building Fund which was spearheaded by BOG, PTA with 300 parents, 13 teachers and the Old Boys with public support, managed to collect a total of RM 4.8 million. The Education Ministry awarded RM500k and the Local & Housing Ministry allocated another RM500k to complete the total amount. Finally the school shifted into its own premise in USJ 1 on 28 th July 2003.

Ever since SJK(C) Chee Wen started operating in Subang Jaya, many parents have benefited greatly as they do not need to send their children out of Subang Jaya anymore. Stressful traveling to and from School is no longer a daily chore for the parents and their children. There are great savings of transportation costs and in time. The avoidance of needless traveling outside Subang Jaya by pupils to School do help to prevent any untoward accident along the way. These are some of the little intangible benefits that many parents and pupils now enjoy. We sincerely hope that these benefits will continue do be enjoyed by many, many more patents and pupils in future.

Why is there a need for a hall?
The number of pupils in Chee Wen increased about ten folds in 4 years that is from 158 to 1250. Development stages of pupils need to be well balanced, that is through curricular and extra-curricular activities. To hold extra-curricular activities, the school is short of space and venue. Moreover, with the increasing number of pupils coming in, the School may need to have two sessions by next year i.e morning session and afternoon session. Thus, there is an urgent need for a proper place to house the pupils of the afternoon session arriving before the morning session is over. The pupils of the afternoon session will remain on the ground floor of the School Hall, sheltered from the rain and sun until the morning session is over.

The 2 storey school hall will have 10 badminton courts, an auditorium and an extra-curricular activities centre. The whole projects costs about RM 4 million. Upon completion, the hall and the auditorium will benefit all our pupils present and future. The hall could also serve as a venue to promote cultural, artistic and musical activities, indoor games and wedding dinners. The auditorium and the hall could be rented out and the revenue generated therefore will help to provide a continuous cash flow stream for the maintenance and development of the school in future.

As this is the final phase of the school’s development, we hope to accomplish it in a short period of time so that the school activities will not be disrupted, and that our school pupils will benefit from using it as soon as possible. If completed on time by early next year, our first batch of Standard Six pupils may sit for their UPSR examination in the School Hall.

In addition, costs of construction will escalate over time. The more the construction of our School Hall is delayed, the more expensive it will cost us. Therefore, let us build out School Hall now.

At present, SJK (C) Chee Wen has around 1000 parents and our future parents will not be less than another 1000. Therefore it has been said that if every parent can help to raise for example RM 2000, then we can achieve out target of RM 4 million. Thus, dear Parents and kind Donors, let us get together and work hand-in-hand to realize a vision for the pupils of SJK (C) Chee Wen now and the future so that they will all have the opportunity to study, learn, exercise and play in a complete and conducive environment.

Help Us To Provide A Better Future For Our School Children!

Thank you for your usual and kind support.

Your truly,
NG YIM KONG
Chairman of PIBG SJK (C) Chee Wen
